2024-2025 Packaging Policy for WA State Aid
All Students enrolled at Paul Mitchell The School Spokane may apply for a WA State Aid if eligible. To be eligible for a State Grant, a student at Paul Mitchell The School Spokane must:
- Submit an approved FAFSA and/or WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid) and have family income at or below than 100% for WCG and/or 65% for the College Bound Scholarship.
- Be a Washington state resident.
- Enroll in an eligible program.
- Not have exceeded the maximum usage limit of five (5) full time years of WCG eligibility and/or five (5) full time years of CBS eligibility.
*WA Bridge Grants are available to WCG recipients (not CBS eligible) who enroll in at least 3 credits, meet the 65% MFI, and do not qualify for the College Bound Scholarship. Amount can be a flat rate, lump sum payment for the year, or awarded proportionally across terms, whichever is in the best interest of the student. WA Bridge Grants are limited to need and are not prorated by enrollment level.
- Not owe a repayment to another student aid program.*
- A student that enrolls at Paul Mitchell The School Spokane fills out a Washington College Grant questionnaire with the information needed for the Financial Aid Office to determine whether they demonstrate Financial Need.
- Students sign a Washington College Grant “Conditions of Award” form, certifying that they meet the eligibility requirements.
- Students sign a Directive for Disbursement indicating whether they wish the disbursements to go to them or to the school for tuition.
- Once the student’s award has been calculated a Washington College Grant Award Letter is generated for the student to sign.
- The Washington College Grant award is then used as part of the need based aid to determine the student’s eligibility for Federal Direct Student Loans.
- The Financial Aid Administrator may limit the amount of WCG awarded if receipt of the grant in combination with other gift aid exceeds the COA budget used for packaging all other students.
College Bound Scholarship
To be eligible for a College Bound Scholarship, a student must have already met one of the requirements below:
- Students who were in public school and eligible for free-and-reduced price lunch in 7th, 8th, or newly eligible in 9th grade.
- Students who were in state foster care, or a dependent of the state between 7th grade and high school graduation.
- Attended a private school or homeschool program in Washington State and met the income requirements.
- Were in another type of foster care and not eligible for free-and-reduced price lunch.
- Graduated from a Washington State high school or homeschool program.
- Accepted to and go to one of the over 65 participating colleges, universities, or programs within one year of graduating high school.
- Have no felony convictions.
- Complete a financial aid application form, the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or the WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid) beginning their senior year and meet the 2024-25 USDA Income Guidelines.
The State of Washington offers supplemental grants each year to help cover the cost of attendance beyond Institutional Charges. Eligibility is determined primarily by Washington State residency and income level as well as maintaining satisfactory Academic Progress. Other qualifications include; maximum number of semesters of Washington College Grants usage, not owing repayment of other Washington College Grant monies and being enrolled in an eligible program of study.
Payments from the Washington College Grant Program are generally made in three equal payments per academic year, determined by clock hour progress, measured against the standard 900 clock hour academic year, as well as a ten (10) week period between disbursements. Please note that no additional disbursements of WCG funds will be made until 100% of clock hours from the current disbursement's payment period have been completed or earned.
If you receive WCG funding, the following Conditions of Award apply. The State of Washington is offering you financial assistance to help support your educational expenses. Please visit www.opportunitypathways.wa.gov to receive more information about financial aid, scholarships, work study and student loans. By accepting state financial aid you agree to the conditions listed below. If you have questions or find that you cannot comply with these conditions, please contact your institution's financial aid office.
- You must meet the requirements for Washington State residency.
- You do not owe a repayment to any federal or state grant or scholarship nor are you in default on a state or federal student loan.
- You must be enrolled in an eligible program and not be pursuing a degree in theology.
- You hold a bachelor's degree or the foreign equivalent, or in some circumstances if you are pursuing a second associate's degree within five years of earning an associate degree, you are not eligible to receive state grant funds.
- If you do not attend or if you withdraw from your classes, you may owe a repayment of all or part of any state funds you have received.
- You must maintain the academic progress standards established by your institution in order to receive additional state aid.
- There could be certain circumstances that would require a repayment or reduction in your current award amounts.
- You must meet all eligibility requirements for the state aid program(s) awarded.
- The offer of this financial assistance is subject to, and conditioned upon, the availability of funds.
Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) and the institution through which the grant, scholarship, or work study is awarded, reserve the right to withdraw, reduce, or modify the awards due to funding limitations or due to changes in circumstances which affect your eligibility for the program(s). You may choose to voluntarily make financial contributions to WSAC in recognition of the assistance that you received. All voluntary contributions will be used to provide financial assistance to other students. Please contact finaid@wsac.wa.gov for more information.
