2020-2021 Packaging Policy for WA State Aid

All students enrolled at Paul Mitchell The School Spokane may apply for a WA State Aid if eligible. To be eligible for a State Grant, a student at Paul Mitchell The School Spokane must:

  • Submit an approved FAFSA and/or WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid) and have family income at or below than 100% for WCG and/or 65% for the College Bound Scholarship.
  • Be a Washington state resident.
  • Enroll in an eligible program.
  • Not have exceeded the maximum usage limit of five (5) full time years of WCG eligibility and/or four (4) full time years of CBS eligibility.
  • Not owe a repayment to another student aid program.*
  1. A student that enrolls at Paul Mitchell The School Spokane fills out a Washington College Grant  questionnaire with the information needed for the Financial Aid Office to determine  whether they demonstrate Financial Need.
  2. Students sign a Washington College Grant “Conditions of Award” form, certifying that they meet the eligibility requirements.
  3. Students sign a Directive for Disbursement indicating whether they wish the disbursements to go to them or to the school for tuition.
  4. Once the student’s award has been calculated a Washington College Grant Award Letter is generated for the student to sign.
  5. The Washington College Grant award is then used as part of the need based aid to determine the student’s eligibility for Federal Direct Student Loans.
  6. The Financial Aid Administrator may limit the amount of WCG awarded if receipt of the grant in combination with other gift aid exceeds the COA budget used for packaging all other students.

For College Bound Scholarship the application deadline is June 30 at the end of the student's 8th grade year. Students only need to sign up once. To be eligible for a College Bound Scholarship, a student must have already met one of the requirements below:

  • Must have been eligible for the federal free- or reduced-price lunch program or receive basic food/TANF benefits.
  • Been a student who was in foster care or a dependent of the state.
  • The 2015 family income from all sources (taxable and nontaxable) was less than or equal to the amounts in the academic year income eligibility chart.

Their income eligibility to receive the scholarship will be based on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) they are required to file before entering college.

The State of Washington offers supplemental grants each year to help cover the cost of attendance beyond Institutional Charges. Eligibility is determined primarily by Washington State residency, family size and income level as well as maintaining satisfactory Academic Progress. Other qualifications include; maximum number of semesters of Washington College Grants usage, not owing repayment of other Washington College Grant monies and being enrolled in an eligible program of study. 

Payments from the Washington College Grant Program are generally made in three equal payments per academic year, determined by clock hour progress, measured against the standard 900 clock hour academic year, as well as a ten (10) week period between disbursements (based on availability of funds for the award year). Please note tha no additional disbursements of WCG funds will be made until 100% of clock hours from the current disbursement's payment period have been completed or earned.

If you receive WCG funding, the following Conditions of Award apply.  The State of Washington is offering you financial assistance to help support your educational expenses.  Please visit this website to receive more information about financial aid, scholarships, work study and student loans.

By accepting state financial aid you agree to the conditions listed below.  If you have questions or find that you cannot comply with these conditions, please contact your institution's financial aid office.

  1. You must meet the requirements for Washington State residency.
  2. You do not owe a repayment to any federal or state grant or scholarship nor are you in default on a state or federal student loan.
  3. You must be enrolled in an eligible program and not be pursuing a degree in theology. If you hold a bachelor's degree or the foreign equivalent, or in some circumstances if you are  pursuing a second associates degree within five years of earning an associate degree, you are not eligible to receive state grant funds.
  4. If you do not attend or if you withdraw from your classes, you may owe a repayment of all or part of any state received.
  5. If you do not attend or if you withdraw from your classes, you may owe a repayment of all or part of any state funds you have received.
  6. You must maintain the academic progress standards established by your institution in order to receive additional state aid.
  7. There could be certain circumstances that would require a repayment or reduction in your current award amounts.
  8. You must meet all eligibility requirements for the state aid program(s) awarded.
  9. The offer of this financial assistance is subject to, and conditioned upon, the availability of funds. 

Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) and the institution through which the grant, scholarship, or work study is awarded, reserve the right to withdraw, reduce, or modify the awards due to funding limitations or due to changes in circumstances which affect your eligibility for the program(s).

You may choose to voluntarily make financial contributions to WSAC in recognition of the assistance that you received.  All voluntary contributions will be used to provide financial assistance to other students.  Please contact finaid@wsac.wa.gov for more information.
